We are delighted to discover that our Peg range has been selected to be part of a major retrospective exhibition that will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the famous Salone Satellite exhibition. The exhibition will definitely be one of the most important shows of this Milan Design Festival.

Comprising of a selection of prominent and notable designs from the thousands that have been presented throughout the 20-year history The exhibition which is curated by the acclaimed Italian Architect and design critic Beppe Finessi, will showcase the significant importance the annual event that is Salone Satellite has within the design industry.

Peg was selected as one of these notable and important pieces to represent 2016 the year in which it was presented at the major international event.

SaloneSatellite was the first event to focus on young designers, instantly becoming the unrivalled place for interface with manufacturers, talent scouts and the most promising young designers. Its creation in 1998 was essentially a declaration of faith in the creative potential of designers under 35. Many of the prototypes presented in the previous 19 editions have gone into production, and many of the 10,000 designers who have taken part over the years, along with 270 international design schools, are now big names on the design scene.

 

The exhibition which is free to the public takes place in the large isles of the Fabbrica del Vapore Cathedral.

And the winners of the 2016 VMODERN Furniture Design Competition  are…Congratulation David, Canan and Trayan!

What would be the outcome of a collaboration between talents David Beirne, product designer from Bright Potato, Canan Karahasanoglu and Trayan Andonov Haralanov, architects from Turkey?: Wave-Part light, a fascinating and innovative concept revisiting the 19^th century’s quantum mechanics of light and the beginning of electricity in our lives.

 

The result is a modern, futuristic and design 3D light which is undoubtedly a great step and an inspiration in the world of furniture design.

 

 

The VMODERN Furniture Design Competition is an annual international competition by the architectural and design journal eVolo Magazine (www.evolo.us). Evolo focuses on technological advances, sustainability, and innovative design for the 21st Century.

The VMODERN award was born from the desire to create a forum for the discussion, debate and development of innovative design.  Our goal is to discover and promote the most creative pieces of furniture that will transform the way we live and interact with our environment. What is the future of furniture design?

Design is about to take over the city, and we’re getting excited!

Next week see’s the beginning of this year London Design Festival, and with so much going on we decided to make a list of the things we are most looking forward to seeing and doing and share it with you:

Monday 19th Sept:

12:00 to 17:00 – Focus/16 @ Design Center of Chelsea

17:30 to 19:00 – The Smile @ Chelsea College of Arts

This mighty hardwood structure is one of the landmark installations for this year’s London Design Festival. It’s been created by architect Alison Brooks, and despite the giant, curved structure looking like it should start rocking at any minute, the piece is designed to be entirely motionless.

Tuesday 20th Sept:

14:00 to 15:00 – The Contemporary Market for Collective

18:00 to 20:00 – Design Council Spark Showcase @ City Hall, London Bridge

20:30 to 22:00 – Shoreditch Design Triangle @ ACE Hotel Shoreditch

For part of the Shoreditch Design Triangle, Ace Hotels in house florist, That Flower Shop, will be taking part in a late night opening and hosting an intimate live music event immersed in the surroundings of the shops flora and otherworldly botanical creations.

Wednesday 21st Sept:

Green Room is a monumental installation at the V&A, conceived by London design studio Glithero in partnership with luxury watch maker Panerai, longstanding supporter of the London Design Festival.

Also at the V&A

The V&A Engineering Season will highlight the importance of engineering in our daily lives and consider engineers as the unsung heroes of design, who play a vital and creative role in the creation of our built environment.

Saturday 24th Sept:

The Milan design festival which is the biggest festival of design of the year, takes over the entire city of Milan from 12th – 17th April. Bright Potato will be exhibiting at SaloneSatellite, one of the most prominent exhibitions of the festival, focusing on innovations in material, interaction and experience in design. During the show we will be unavailing two new exciting design projects in addition to showcasing studio collections including Peg, Papillon and Eterea.

Come say hello, have a chat and check out our stand which is in pavilion 15, Salone Satellite stand number C31. Have a look at the map below which shows pavilion 13 on the left and pavilion 15 on the right. The easiest way to reach our stand is through the main (central) entrance gate to Salone Satellite from pavilion 15. From there we’re just around the corner.
